Just the Other Day: Antifascist Artifacts from the Spanish Civil War

Join us October 15th from 5-7pm for the opening soiree of our newest exhibition showcasing an assortment of photographs, posters, newspapers and more from the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).

GerdaTaro, considered the first female war photographer, and Robert Capa, one of the most renowned war photographers in history, artfully captured the humanity and horror of the conflict between Franco’s Nationalists (supported by Hitler and the Mussolini) and the antifascist Republicans — who ultimately lost in this historic prelude to WW2. Both Taro and Capa fled the Nazi regime in Germany and settled in Paris as refugees in 1934, and that’s where they met. From Paris they traveled to Spain at the onset of the Spanish conflict, and launched legendary careers within a now little known, but historically significant civil war.

Supporting the Republican fighters were several brigades of international volunteers, including nearly 3,000 American young men…
